Fresher Faces With Facial Aesthetics in CamdenJuly 3, 2018 / byHealthier Societies / Categories : Medical
Crafting dream smiles is part and parcel of a modern dental practice with the use of cosmetic dental treatments. But when it comes to enhancing a patient’s appearance, there are even more services on offer today with facial aesthetics.
Dentists undergo years of training learning about the many nerves, muscles and tissues of the human face. It is armed with this knowledge that many dentists in practices across the country offer treatments in facial aesthetics. Camden is home to one such practice, Ace Dental.
What is facial aesthetics?
Facial aesthetics in Camden and elsewhere in the UK refers to non-surgical treatments that focus on improving the cosmetic appearance of the face. Two of the most widely known procedures that fall under this umbrella are Botox and dermal filler treatment.
The basics of Botox
Botox is the trade name for a drug made from botulinum toxin type A. Botox stops nerves sending signals to muscles, which causes the muscles to relax. By carefully injecting Botox into the face, in a targeted manner, a dentist can relax the muscles responsible for wrinkles. Areas often treated include crow’s feet around the eyes, frown lines and forehead lines.
Treatment only takes 5–10 minutes and usually does not require any pain relief. However, the effects can take up to a week to show themselves and are not permanent. Botox usually lasts around three months, after which a top-up treatment is needed to maintain the same look.
Dermal fillers explained
Some of the effects of ageing are down to a loss of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that helps keep the skin plump and hydrated. Dermal fillers aim to replace this lost hyaluronic acid in order to plump out the face, smooth facial contours and fill in wrinkles and grooves.
